A native of France, Christine showed an aptitude for baking and cooking at a very young age. As soon as school was out and homework finished, she would take over the kitchen. “I have been around pots and pans for as long as I can remember!” After graduating from college, she relocated to the United States at the age of nineteen, where she landed an office job at a local business. “Well… I was a filing clerk, a far, far cry from the advertising and marketing career I was aiming for."
Call it fate, but working in an office right above a restaurant inspired Christine’s desire to create innovative flavors and unexpected presentations. “I always volunteered to get the printed daily menus to the kitchen. That was a great chance to ask the millions of questions I had for the chefs!”
It was inevitable that Christine would pursue a career in the field of Culinary Art, leaving behind the 9-to-5 office routine.
Eight years later, while working as an Executive Chef in New York City, Christine really began to explore different aspects of the cooking world. “I LOVE to cook… I would go to bed and think about how to make an exquisite twist on a sauce, how to bring flavors together to enhance the senses and make the tasting of a dish simply… an experience!”.
Her breathtaking presentations rapidly came to the attention of her clients. From ten course formal dinners to dessert buffet tables, Christine understood the importance of fresh, innovative flavors and absolutely stunning presentations.
At a 25th wedding anniversary, Christine was asked to have a custom designed cake for the party. Her natural ability to sculpt and paint allowed her to style a unique and elegant show piece. Needless to say, guests at the party requested her services to create special cakes for their occasions. “Everything snowballed… really fast. Next thing I know, I am making cakes for friends of a friend and so on”.
In 2007, Design Cakes was born to handle the demand for her unique and amazing desserts. Christine’s husband and partner, Artur used his technical expertise to design a website and digital presentations within the shop. Design Cakes rapidly gained the attention of the media. They have appeared on RTP International Television and have been featured in several magazines such as Grace Ormonde Wedding Style, NY and NJ Brides Magazines, Contemporary Bride, (201)Bride Magazine, The Knot, Brides NY and NJ, The Examiner, to name just a few. Despite all this attention, Design Cakes relies on word of mouth and loyal return costumers, who make up the core of our business.
We believe no matter how big or small your event is, every one deserves a great cake!!! We would like to thank our awesome costumers for their support.
