About D.C.

A native from France, Christine showed at a very young age her interest for baking and cooking. She was always around the stove, taking charge of the kitchen on weekends when school was out and homework was done. “I have been around pots and pans for as log as I can remember!” After graduating from college, she came to the United States at the young age of nineteen, where she landed an office job at a local business. “Well … I was a filling clerk, a far, far cry from the advertising and marketing career I was aiming for”.

Call it faith, but working in an office right above a restaurant just enticed Christine’s senses for creative dishes with innovating flavors and unexpected presentations. “I always volunteered to bring the printed daily menus to the kitchen. That was a great chance to ask those million of questions I had for the chefs!”.
I was inevitable that Christine would pursue a career in the field of culinary art leaving behind the 9 to 5 office excitement.

Eight years later while working as an executive chef in New York City, the exposure to the dynamics of the Big Apple allowed this chef to explore different aspects of the cooking world! “I LOVE to cook … I go to bed and think about how to make that exquisite twist on a sauce, how to bring flavors together to enhance your senses and make the tasting of a dish simply … and experience!”.

And then it happened. Shifting slightly to deserts, the breathtaking presentations rapidly came to the attention of her clients. From ten course formal dinners to desert buffet tables, Christine understood the importance for fresh, innovating flavors and absolutely stunning presentation.
At a 25th wedding anniversary, Christine was asked to have a custom design cake for the party. This chef’s natural ability to sculpt and paint allowed her to style a unique and elegant show piece. Needless to say, guests at the party requested her services to create a special cake for their occasion, “Everything snowballed … really fast. Next think, I am making cakes for friends of a friend and so on”.

In 2007, Design Cakes was born to handle the demand for unique and amazing deserts. As Christine’s husband and partner started working on a website to promote the business, Design Cakes rapidly got the attention of the media. They have appeared on RTP International Television and have been featured on several bridal magazines such as Grace Ormonde Wedding Style, NY and NJ Brides Magazines, Contemporary Bride, (201)Bride Magazine, The Knot, Brides NY and NJ, The Examiner, as well as other local magazines and newspapers articles. Most of Design Cakes business relies on word of mouth and loyal return costumers.

“We believe no matter how big or small your event is … every one deserves a great cake!!! We would like to thank our awesome costumers for their support”.
